Teal Dragon Quilts

A world of Quilts and Dragons!

Power to get it done!

Let me tell you about the quilting bee I am in.  The ladies are just awesome.  We have a group from the bee that meets twice a month to work on Quilts for Charity.  Most go to our Comforters in the QGGH Guild, but we do other projects, as well.  At the last bee meeting, we discussed doing an Opportunity Quilt for our guild.  This was the January meeting.  Our guild meets the 3rd Tuesday and Friday.  By the Tuesday meeting, my bee had the design, signup sheets and a sample block.  Yesterday, most of us in the bee, we have a few that work during the day, but most of us got together, pooled our batiks and made kits for the guild members who signed up.  5 Bucks a Yard provided the background fabric.  We sorted, ironed, cut and stuffed the kits.  We were done by 2.  Way to go Cotton Pickin’!  I am proud to be a member our Bee.

I hope you experience the friendship of a close group of women.  Being an introvert, I don’t usually do well in crowds and was envious of my mother having tons of friends, well not really envious, but I just didn’t think I could have that many best friends.  well, i was wrong.  I am truly blessed with amazing friends!

God Bless!

Jane Sassaman!

What fun it is to play.  Jane’s class was all about trying new things.  This morning, I couldn’t go back to sleep because I kept visualizing what I was going to do on my Guild Flora Challenge for our show in May.  The class was fun, but I got so far behind on everything else!

Today is Sew Day with my 3rd Saturday friends and this morning I go to the Newbie Tea for QGGH new members.  Hoping to get the Jane Sassaman workshop project put together.

It’s been a “guildy” kind of week.  Meeting on Tuesday night, workshop for 2 days, meeting Friday morning where a good friend gave the lecture and today, the Newbie Tea.  Plus I’ve been doing spreadsheets for the volunteer signups for our show in May.

I really need to make some practice time, just don’t know when that’s going to happen…Maybe tonight…

Anyway, short and sweet, gotta go live my life!

God Bless!

Sew Day!

It is a sew day, except I’ve signed up for a guild workshop.  The weather is horrendous and class has been delayed 2 hours….Freckles is going into daycare.  Hoping I don’t run into flooding.  I don’t do well with wet roads and usually decide to stay home, but I’ll go slow, watch for high water, and stay cool, calm and collected….Collected?  Where does that come from?  Is it the right word?  Am I remembering the saying wrong?

Not much going on in my quilting world with quilting.  I quilted two quilts at Quilt Your Own last week.  Then, I’ve been busy getting spreadsheets ready for guild meeting for sign ups to volunteer for our quilt show in May.  Joy of Quilts, May 5 and 6.  Going to be a great show.  I hope to enter a couple…

Been wearing my advertising chair hat.  That’s caught up, yeah!  Circulation for snail mail newsletters is done.  Website is pretty much up to date.  But we had a meeting last night and a few more things to add and tweak.  I’m trying to think what I have been spending my time on….

Yesterday, a good friend of mine and I went to look at tile and granite.  I found some stuff I really like.  All the pieces of the Teal Dragon House re-model are coming together.  Should be ready to show plans to hubby soon.  (he has to SEE it.  IT being everything from paint to hardware.)  My friend is helping with that, too.  You know me, make the decisions as I go along.  Hubby and I are NOT 2 peas in a pod.

oh yea, how could I forget…Letters to sellers for my real estate agents.  My brain just does not work like it used to.  Seems to take longer for me to get these done.  I work with 3 really good agents, so if you by chance need one, I know people!

Then there are the chores of owning a home and having a family.  My meals have been pretty tasty.  Last night, not so much.  Crock Pot Chicken, tasted good, but was so dry.  But wasn’t home long enough to roast it.  It will make good filler for arapas! (not sure if I spelled that right)

God Bless and thank you for reading my ramblings!

Staying on Track

It’s mid-January and I thought I would take a quick peek at my goals…I know I should have them in front of me, but they are in a file on the computer.  I should print before I close the file.  ANYWAY, I’m doing ok.  I have a finished project already for 2017.  It’s not a UFO, but it was never in the UFO pile.  I have a comforter quilt that should be done by guild, only the binding left.  I have another top that needs borders quilted, label and binding and it’s done.  I sew 15 minutes almost every day.

So, why do I not sew 15 minutes everyday?  Life, work…real estate is taking more of my time.  So something has to give and regretfully, it is sewing.

My guild website is up to date with all the info I have.  I am working on a “how to” page for community rewards programs and am waiting for more info.

I blog, but not 5 days a week.  Again, Life happens, plus when I blog is usually late night or early morning. I’ve been choosing to sleep! haha.

Haven’t looked at Corel Draw or learning new things on Brigetta.  Don’t want to be a whiney baby, but my shoulder hurts when I play the violin, therefore, I don’t want to.  I will try for 15 minute intervals this next week.

I walk Freckles everyday.  It’s kind of hard to turn him down, he’s so sweet!  I do do Spanish, but it’s about 5 minutes…one DuoLingo Lesson.

This week I will focus on 15 minutes of sewing, violin practice, blogging and Spanish.  Wish me luck!

God Bless

Sew much to do…

Spent the weekend in Dallas and had a wonderful visit with family.  I am really lucky to have married into a family that I love and that loves me.  It was mentioned that I have known them for 39 years!  I’ve watched Don’s younger siblings become beautiful people.  Not much sewing, but I did get the binding put on Pa-Tune-ya!  Picture is posted on Instagram.  It also snowed on Friday.  I love snow.  My puppy and I took a walk in the snow.  We both enjoyed the walk.  A pic of him with snow is also on the above link.

So Pa-Tune-ya is in the DONE pile, what’s next?  Three Sisters is up next.  I am taking it to Quilt Your Own to long arm quilt it.  A pic of the top is also on the Instagram link.  This morning I sketched out quilting plan.

Weave thru the Friendship stars and meander to make quilted stars and echo around them.

Weave thru the Friendship stars and meander to make quilted stars and echo around them.

It looks a little squashed, but with the long arm and the size of my friendship stars, I think it will be nice.  Now, what to do in the border….any ideas?  I could quilt falling stars mimicking the reverse appliqué stars, but my free hand with 4 pointed stars is terrible!

I also need to get the homestead exemption forms out to clients for the real estate agents I work with.  Almost have one agent done.  Then there are errands to run, gotta get some batting.  Then the guild website needs updating, and I should probably start posting about our speakers in January.

I would love to get back to de-cluttering.  I have a mountain in my family room that is just screaming DE-CLUTTER me next!  Oh and then we cannot forget TAXES.  Would love to have them done by Feb. 1, problem with that is no one gets their docs to us by Jan. 31…argh!…

God Bless!

I Figured It Out!

I know why I seem to be getting things done.  I haven’t watched TV.  No Gibbs and no Bull.  Then there’s Criminal Minds.  That’s 3 hours.  It used to be more.  But lately, none of the shows seem to offer what I like in a tv show…action, adventure, an ounce of humor.  I know I’m different than the average bear here, but I detest the 30 minute things they call comedies.  Every now and then they are ok, but week in and week out?  No thank you.  Then another is the “reality” shows.  Really?  Reality?  nope.  not buying.  I would love another good Star Trek, or Babylon 5.  Anyway, I’ll catch up on my 3 favs this weekend.

I know this one is short, but after the novels you’ve been reading this should be a nice change.  I will try to publish at a scheduled time.  It used to work like a charm, but this year, it’s not working like I think it should work.  I have one more try before I contact the help desk…(I’m writing this on the 5th and want to publish on the 6th.)

God Bless!

Five Days In

I missed a day of blogging, but I’m right back on that horse.  Tuesday night I was working quick as I could to get Pa-Tune-ya ready for bee.  She’s quilted and impressed everyone. 🙂

Laid out ready for embellishing

Laid out ready for embellishing

I don’t have a pic of her done, at least not on my computer.  I will work on that, but I’ll post on Instagram soon.  Last night I worked on the binding and the label.  So she’s ready for our next road trip.  Still have to thread the needles.

Someone was wondering how my room would look after my first project.  Well, I consider Pa-Tune-ya the first one of the year and my room is looking pretty good…

Cutting Table…Clean

Cutting Table…Clean

Cutting Table was cleared before bedtime.  That wasn’t really too challenging.  The room is next for the de-clutter, which is challenging, because the furniture you see goes in the master, which will be the first to room to paint after the bathrooms are done.  I pulled the furniture out of the master in prep of cleaning the carpets, then decided to remodel….so nothing is where it should be, well almost nothing….

My studio is still looking pretty good.  The sewing station and desk are clear.

Sewing Station ready for sit down and sew.

Sewing Station ready for sit down and sew.

I did sit down and sew for 15 minutes this morning.  I’m really wanting to finish the top I’ m working on, but I’m trying to just work on it for 15 minutes at a time.  Thank you Debbie Caffrey.  Her Power Cutting Too Class was the best.  My accuracy has increased by following her directions.

Desk is ready for work!

Desk is ready for work!

My desk, which also acts as a table top for stuff is ready for me to sit down and work.  This is where I write my posts and work on real estate stuff from the agents I assist.  Not the best set up, but it works.

Ironing Station and Fabric Storage

Ironing Station and Fabric Storage

The Fabric Storage top is the messiest part of my space.  I worked on that label last night and didn’t pick up my toys.  It will be done.

I worked on my Spanish last night before bed.  DuoLingo is great.  I use it on my iPad and each lesson takes maybe 5 minutes, so instead of playing BubbleWitch or some sort of Find Hidden Objects game, I play DuoLingo!  You know it helped a little with the plumbers that did the manual labor, between their English and my Spanish, we communicated decent.  They seemed tickled that I tried to speak Spanish.  Then I think maybe they pretended to understand?  Oh well.  I will only get better with practice!

Haven’t missed a walk with Freckles.  I have some things to put on the guild website and hope to get it done before bed tonight.  A friend keeps telling me to take just two or three of these goals and work on them.  I understand.  I’m tempted, but which ones do I choose?  I look at them and see I do a lot of it anyway, just timing needs to improve.  Follow thru needs to happen.  The only one that takes a chunk of time is the 4 hours of sewing, and if I am successful with this, then I will succeed with all my sewing goals.  If I succeed with all my sewing goals, chances are I’m sewing 4 hours a day or more.  So, I’m going to keep going with my plan and always be kind to me when I reflect on my progress.

God Bless!

This morning my old friend, asthma greeted me at about 2 AM.  Not a good night.  But I’ve changed how I greet this devil.  I rest.  Yep, no more trying to push through, no more continuing as if nothing is different.  I take a break.  I lay down in the recliner with a warm blankie.  I am still.  I do not worry about what I should or could be doing.  My focus is to get thru this, to breathe.  And you know, I’m fine now.  At about 10:00 I got all better.  Could have been that the rain stopped and the sun came out.  But I have tried this approach before and had similar results.

So this time the devil did not succeed in getting me off my goals!  My basting table is clear and Pa-Tune-ya is ready for quilting!  I missed the 15 minutes of sewing, but I was battling a demon.  The Monday “chores” were done…groceries, clothes washed….Freckles was walked, the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston website is up to date, I’m prepared for our board meeting tomorrow night.

The day may have started out like it was going to be a goal stopper, but it’s turned out great.

God Bless!

Happy New Year

Hope today was the start of a great year for you.  It was for me.  I sewed 4 hours, well most of the day.  I did take a nap and I did walk Freckles.

Frequent Visitor looking for treats

Frequent Visitor looking for treats

He is my 4 legged baby and he’s just so dang cute!  It rained yesterday and our backyard, thanks to the plumbers, who have finished up, (yea!) is a mess of mud.  DH let puppy out this morning (5 AM) and he came back in with mud all over his paws.  If you know me, then you know I like to sleep late, well I got up and cleaned up the mud.  DH cleaned the paws.  It was not a pleasant experience, but we survived and the day only got better.

I’ve got all my embellishments on my Happy Cow, now I’m ready to quilt….But….I need to clear off my basting table.  It was next on the de-clutter list anyway, but I’m getting sleepy and wanted to post so am taking a break from sewing and de-cluttering.  See my Instagram post.

I’ll keep this one short.  The last two were on the long side.  Have a Blessed, Happy, Productive, whatever you wish kind of year.  Hope you follow along with me and see where I end up.  I’m planning on posting the whole year this time.  This is try #3.  I’ve heard it’s the charmed one.

God Bless!

2017 Goals

Happy New Year my dear followers.  I’m hoping to add more of you in 2017.  I’m sharing my goals with you for several reasons.  The main one is accountability.  Last year worked decent, this year I’m hoping for pretty good.  So those are very subjective terms.  Decent, I worked at my goals for about 3 months in 2016, then I moved on to other things.  Pretty good will be when I work at my goals for at least 6 months or continue even sporadically for the whole year.  I don’t expect it to be intense like it was last year, but a little every day.  One goal, one objective, or one action from at least one of my goals every day, or 5 days a week.  I’m giving myself the weekends off!  So below are the goals, read them or not.  I understand if you don’t, but if you do, please remember to try to encourage me to see it thru 2017.  Especially around April 2017.

Goals for 2017

I will choose 12 UFO’s to complete.  I will complete 6 by year’s end.

The website will be updated in a timely manner.  The new info goes out within a week after the old expires.  Pictures are uploaded within 2 – 3 days of receipt.  I am proactive in getting info needed for the updates.  The website is error free.  Each page on the website is recreated with DreamWeaver.

Postings for FB Group, Page and MyGrove are planned, prepared and written down on a “Media Calendar”. MyGrove and Facebook page postings include info on meetings, workshops, speakers and how to join the guild.

I continue to participate in Guild activities.  Charity Quilt Days, Community Service and Activity Corner.  I attend Friday meetings.

Quilts Promised

I finish 2 quilts I’ve promised to others.  I work from my list of all promised quilts

Charity Quilts

I make one charity quilt a month for Comforters.  I attend Boll Weevils twice a month and take tops to quilt and put together.

Business Plan

I blog 5 days a week.  I have 50 followers.  My website is up to date.  I pass out business cards to everyone I meet.  I sew 4 hours a day.  I devote a half hour a day to planning and working my business.

I know how to use my Bernina 880 and her accessories.  I know how to embroider, oil, and clean my machine.  I know and use the different features, I understand and use Corel Draw.  I incorporate learning the machine and software into my blog.

I play my violin/piano confidently for others.  Any solos are played clear and strong.  I complete the Practice Hack course.  I practice violin and piano 4 to 5 times a week.  I play in a quartet.  My bow hold and violin hold are relaxed.  I make a decision to move forward or stop playing professionally.

I am healthy.  I weigh 210 pounds.  I make healthy eating decisions.  My portion sizes are the “suggested” portion sizes.  I cook healthy and tasty meals.  I row 5 times a week.  I walk Freckles every day.  I practice yoga every day.  My core is strong and I am limber.

I speak and read Spanish.  I work with Duolingo 15 minutes a day, 5 times a week.

God bless!
