A world of Quilts and Dragons!

MQM bust

on February 29, 2016

Well, MQM just went bust!  It’s Sunday night and I have nothing to show for Machine Quilting.  But I can talk about some things.  The walking foot.  It’s how I started machine quilting.  Straight lines and in the ditch.  Well, my seams were never straight and I fell “out” of the ditch quite often.  Then I discovered the freedom of free motion and I haven’t looked back.

But the modern quilts are using a lot of straight line quilting.  The walking foot is perfect for this.  Did you know most walking foots have a tool that you can use to minimize your drawing of straight lines?  It’s an arm that slides along the sewn line and you can set it up to different distances.  But let me tell you, it’s not very exciting.  But it works.  I don’t have any samples to show.

I did get to see Itzhak Perlman Saturday night at the Grand in Galveston.  OH MY GOSH!  He is the most relaxed player I have ever seen.  (not my first time seeing him).  But he makes violin playing look so effortless.  He played the Beethoven Spring Violin and Piano Sonata.  I have played this piece with a friend of mine from Lafayette.  So I knew it backwards and forwards so to speak.  I was in heaven!  In the moment, no future, no past.  Then after he played what was listed on the program, he and his pianist brought out a 24″ stack of music!  Wow, then he just picked something to play, said a few words about it and then they would play it.  A lot of Fritz Kreizler, who was an outstanding violinist that arranged many pieces for solo violin with piano accompaniment.  (not sure if I spelled that right.)  I haven’t touched my violin since.  There is no way I can play like him and it would be an exercise in frustration!  So maybe tomorrow, I’ll work on playing with a “relaxed” feel…

I am inspired to play, just want to give it some space….Thanks for reading and next week, I hope to have my paisley motif ready for show and tell!

God Bless!

Remember, nobody can play like Itzhak Perlman.
